Kahuna Nui Hewahewa’s Legacy

Honoring Kahuna Nui Hewahewa (born late 18th century), the trusted spiritual advisor of Kamehameha the Great and steward of Waimea Valley. Awarded the Valley for his service, Hewahewa later resided there and guided Hawai‘i through a time of profound cultural change, including the transition from the kapu system and the closure of heiau.
