Waimea Valley Trails

Location: Entrance → Waimea falls

The primary paved trail guides you through the Valley past gardens, cultural sites, and scenic views, ending at the sacred Waimea falls.

Location: After Hale Ho‘ike (first pavilion after the ticket booth)

A short side trail featuring the Araceae collection with a plaque explaining the history of the botanical gardens.

Location: Before the 2nd bridge, to the right

Loops around four peaceful ponds, offering scenic spots for photos and reflection.

Location: Left of the main path near Hale Kīpā

Showcases native Hawaiian hibiscus varieties along your walk toward the waterfall.

Location: Past Kauhale, toward the banyan tree

Features kalo terraces, medicinal plants, and other ethnobotanical treasures. Learn about traditional Hawaiian plant uses for food, medicine, and culture.

Location: Side path past the Banyan Tree leading up to Hale Iwi

Highlights more native Hawaiian plants with elevated views of the Valley and reconnects with the main path.

Location: After descending from the upper trail, lean right across the Game Site and Amphitheater

Features a variety of fruit and nut trees, as well as additional hibiscus species.

Location: Turn left at the end of the upper trails on your way down

Full of vibrant ginger and heliconia species, a perfect stop for tropical flower enthusiasts and photography.

Location: Across from Ginger & Heliconia Trail

Highlights the banana family (musaceae) and other tropical plants.

Location: Just past the Musaceae Trail on your way down

Visit Aunty Coco’s and Aunty Kahalenani’s lei garden, showcasing flowers used in traditional Hawaiian lei making.

Location: Across from the Banyan Tree, side trail with stairs down to the stream

Non-paved trail featuring plants native to Central and South America. Follow stairs carefully as it leads down to the stream and reconnects with the main path toward the exit.
