Ka Wai Kūpuna

Water of our Ancestors

A Waimea Valley Fundraising Initiative

Waimea Valley's 50-year old water system has been assessed as in dire need of a complete replacement, and we need your support to ensure our continued operations.

A new water system will:

  • Improve water conservation by eliminating wasteful water line breaks

  • Preserve our world-class botanical gardens by resolving irrigation issues and ensuring the survival of our rare and endangered plants from Hawai'i and around the world

  • Ensure our facilities continue to operate successfully, avoiding a complete shutdown of the Valley

  • Enable Waimea Valley to utilize our Economic Development Administration grant for construction projects throughout the Valley - which cannot begin before a reliable water system is in place

FUNDRAISING GOAL

The Ka Wai Kūpuna (Water of Our Ancestors) fund raiser goal is $1,000,000 for the complete replacement of our water system. Funds raised will be immediately directed toward the 2-phase overhaul:

  • Phase 1 (2023): Replace primary water line from Kamehameha Highway to the gift shop, Visitor Center restrooms and kitchen, and Pikake Pavilion

  • Phase 2 (2024): Replace upper Valley water line, with a pump station to improve water pressure in the botanical gardens

A portion of all admission proceeds in 2024 will benefit Ka Wai Kūpuna. We have also established a community steering committee to oversee fund raising efforts and achieve quarterly targets.

HOW TO HELP

We are seeking financial contributions to augment our own fundraising efforts, which include GoFundMe, integrations with existing Waimea Valley events, and new special fund raising events.

All donations directly support Ka Wai Kūpuna and are tax-deductible to the fullest allowable extent. Mahalo for your consideration.
