Waimea Valley celebrates Earth Day with Mauka to Makai volunteer event

Haleʻiwa, Hawaiʻi (April 10, 2017) – Earth Day 2017 is on Saturday, April 22nd, and Waimea Valley is planning to celebrate in an impactful way. The nonprofit is organizinga volunteer event with projects spanning from Mauka (mountains) to Makai (ocean). The event is designed to engage volunteers with various projects involving taking care of the earth (mālama honua).

Earth Day will start with volunteer sign-in at 8:30 a.m. followed by a welcome ceremony at 9:00 a.m. From there, volunteers will be divided into various groups to begin work. Volunteers will be given a lunch break at noon and projects should conclude at 3:00 p.m.Upon sign-in volunteers will be automatically entered into a raffle where prizes will be distributed as a mahalo for their day’s work!

Earth Day incidentally coincides with Waimea Valley’s Hanai ‘Aina Day, organized by its conservation department. People participating in Hanai ‘Aina will be included in the Earth Day festivities and the volunteers’ raffle. We do ask that those interested in Hanai‘Aina please reserve a spot ahead of time because space is limited.
