Botanical Gardener - Full Time (Temporary)
seeking a temporary full time Botanical Gardener to work on the botanical collection and grounds of Waimea Valley from May 1 through August 31, 2018. The Gardener's primary objective is to preserve, enhance, cultivate and care for plants in the botanical collections.
Waimea Valley is a seven day a week operation and weekend work is required.
Must have knowledge of gardening practices.
Must be people-oriented and able to work well with others.
Must have good oral communication skills.
Must have the ability to read and understand chemical labels and SDS sheets.
Must be familiar with gardening tools and equipment used to cultivate and care for the botanical collections.
Training and Experience
High school diploma or GED preferred.
Experience in gardening.
Driver's License required.
Business Manager - Full Time
Seeking a Business Manager to work with the Director of Business Operations to oversee the business functions of the company Food Services Unit and to provides management support to the Director of Business Operations for the Retail and Visitor Service operations. This person will work closely with the Director of Business Operations to identify and develop food service business opportunities and work with the Events Specialist to provide excellent customer service to guests holding events in Waimea Valley. This person will maintain the stability and reputation of all food services units by complying with legal requirements including knowledge of health hazards and of effective precautionary measures.
Able to work with the Director of Business Operations in achieving financial objectives by preparing an annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; monitoring expenditures and initiating corrective actions in the Food Service unit.
Able to identify current and future customer requirements, ensure availability of food products by maintaining inventories and formulate pricing policies by reviewing food sales.
Able to design, implement and monitor operating systems and procedures for food services activities.
Conduct regular performance and financial analysis, prepares reports and makes improvement recommendations on food services activities. Work to increase local food offerings at the Na Mea Ono Snack Shop. Protect employees and customers by providing a safe and clean snack shop. Able to provide event coordination including working with our catering company to coordinate site tours, contracts, and logistical planning for individuals and groups holding events in Waimea Valley. Able to provide advice and support to the Cultural Programs and Botanical Managers for food offerings at special events and for group tours. Able to carry out supervisory responsibilities over Food Service staff in accordance with Company's policies and applicable federal & state and local laws.
Educational and Training Requirements:
Must possess an Associate or Bachelor's degree in business administration, hospitality management, hospitality and tourism management or hospitality and restaurant management or equivalent work experience. At least five (5) years of hospitality management experience is required. Experience in the food service industry is highly desirable. This is a full time position and regular attendance on a daily basis is required.
Retail and Visitor Services Manager - Full Time
Seeking a Retail and Visitor Services Manager to work with the Director of Business Operations to select and obtain products for sale in our retail shop. this person is responsible for inventory control and daily accounting for Waimea Valley Admissions and our Gift Shop. This person will be responsible for daily operations of the Shuttle Service and the Beach Parking. Supervises the Retail and Visitor Services staff. This person would train sales staff and be responsible for day to day management.
Ability to select and obtain products for sale retail shop, including receiving incoming merchandise and verifying against appropriate contracts.
Able to communicates with suppliers and vendors on disposition of damaged or unsold goods.
Able to oversee periodic audits of inventory, including supervising stocking and restocking of shop.
Able to manager admissions including overseeing distribution of marketing and promotional materials to visitors and sale of admission and special l event tickets .
Able to respond to complaints and other visitor comments.
Able to oversee the daily shuttle service
Able to oversee the daily operation of Beach Parking
Manage daily accounting of merchandise and admissions sales in accordance with procedures.
Able to train sales staff and work with Sales Supervisor in setting schedules.
Familiarity with computer (word processing and spreadsheets),calculator, telephone, copy machine, fax machine, cash register and other equipment as required.
Educational and Training Requirements:
Associate degree in business or a related field, or equivalent work experience required .
Minimum five (5) years in retail management or similar position required .
Experience in the visitor industry is preferred

Cultural Specialist Educator - Full Time
Seeking a Cultural Specialist/Educator under the direction of the Cultural Programs Manager, this person will provide an engaging cultural experience for our guests through activities that include but are not limited to, leading walking tours, demonstrating various cultural practices, and interpreting both cultural and botanical exhibits.
This person will also teach school groups in an outdoor setting, using our existing educational curricula. Student ages range from early learners to college, and beyond.
1. Must be knowledgeable about one or more specific Hawaiian cultural practices and skilled in the performance of such practice.
2. Must be familiar with Hawaiian history and culture, including Waimea Valley's heritage. Must be familiar with major Hawaiian cultural issues.
3. Must be people-oriented and able to work well with others.
4. Must be organized and a self-starter.
5. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
6. Must have planning and time management skills necessary to assist or develop programs.
7. Must be familiar with Microsoft computer programs, including Word and Excel.
8. Must project a professional demeanor and be skilled in relating with people from different communities.
As a minimum, a high school diploma is required. A degree (associates or four year) in Hawaiian Studies or a related field is highly desirable. At least 2 years of relevant community or Hawaiian agency experience. This is a full time position and regular attendance on a daily basis is required. Waimea Valley is a seven day a week operation and some weekend work is required.
Retail Sales Associate - Full Time
Seeking a full time Sales Associate to join our team at the Kuono Wai Wai Gift Shop located in Waimea Valley. The ideal candidate must be friendly, enthusiastic and highly motivated. This person must have previous retail experience and must be able to demonstrate service excellence with fellow associates and customers. Regular attendance on a scheduled daily basis is required for this position. Waimea Valley is a seven day a week operation and some weekend and early evening work is required. This is a full time position. Positive and meaningful visitor experience and service are core values in the management and stewardship of Waimea Valley.
