Waimea Valley's Family Friendly 2010 Film Series
Waimea Valley invites you and your 'ohana to join us for the last two films of 2010!

Our Waimea Valley 'Ohana is very excited about this new community program in Waimea Valley.  The films selected are family friendly and should make for a very enjoyable evening.

Our 3rd film is called "Mighty Uke" and is scheduled for Saturday, August 14, 2010 in conjunction with our annual celebration of the rededication of Waimea Valley.  We hope you will be able to join us at this year's Pulama O Waimea!

Originally brought to Hawaii by Portuguese immigrants, this tiny instrument first captured the musical imaginations of the Hawaiian royal court in the 1880's.  With the dawn of the radio broadcasting age, ukulele music owned the airwaves.  Broadway produced ukulele musicals. Hollywood produced ukulele music stars.  This tiny music maker was so inexpensive and easy to play that by the early 1920's, the ukulele was the most popular instrument in the American home and the first musical instrument for millions of children.  Over the next 30 years, the ukulele reigned number one until the 1950's when the rise of the rock & roll guitar sent the uke fading into nerdy obscurity.

That is, until now.  It seems with the internet age, the ukulele is making a comeback.  Ukulele tops the charts in Japan, Swede punks thrash uke angst, classical compsers carefully pluck out music box sonatas, and all of them meet together at the myriad of ukulele festivals held each year in cities from New York to London to Tokyo.  You won't want to miss the musical journey that "Mighty Uke" takes you on!  Get your discounted presale tickets NOW!

Join us at 6:00 pm when the doors open for a mini concert with local ukulele enthusiasts Timi Abrigo, Justin Alderfer and Derek Higa!  Grab a bite to eat from Waimea Valley Grill and the best seats in the house for the film which will start promptly at 7:00pm!

General admission to this film is $10 for adults.  Presale tickets will be available up until August 13, 2010 f you purchase your tickets from the Waimea Valley gift shop, Ku`ono Waiwai.  For more information, call the Waimea Valley Administrative Office at (808) 638-7766.  Don't miss out on this great event!
